The web platform ICF Applicazioni of the University of Verona was developed from a research project in Special Pedagogy by the Department of Human Sciences, aimed at promoting an evidence-based approach in social, educational, and rehabilitative work. The scientific reference is the biopsychosocial model of the ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health – WHO, 2001).
The platform allows for the development of a Functioning Profile based on a core set of ICF items, with the goal of generating a series of indicators useful for assessment, planning, and evaluation of interventions for specific population targets.
These resources are made available free of charge as part of the Third Mission initiatives of the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Verona.
Mission
The research project that led to the creation of the ICF Applications platform aims to foster a culture of work in the social, educational, and rehabilitative sectors, focused on the appropriateness and effectiveness of interventions, and grounded in evidence.
Too often, initiatives for vulnerable individuals are shaped by self-referential choices. It is therefore essential—consistent with current regulations—to move toward personalized objectives and interventions, supported by a rigorous system for evaluating outcomes, which provides objective feedback on the effectiveness of implemented actions.
In line with these goals, platform users can develop a Functioning Profile based on a core set of ICF items. This profile generates a range of indicators that reflect the person’s priority needs, which can then guide the design of targeted interventions and allow for the assessment of their outcomes over time.
These analyses are valuable for schools (including teaching teams, class councils, and GLOs) in planning educational interventions, as well as for multiprofessional educational, therapeutic, and rehabilitative teams (in geriatric care, mental health, addiction services, and specialized social services) to support the collaborative development of work plans. They are also essential for Multidisciplinary Evaluation Units in preparing the Functioning Profile, as required by current regulations.
